A good self-tape doesn't need expensive gear. It needs clear sound, even light and a performance that lets the casting team see you in the role.
1. Set up your space
Stand in front of a plain wall, face a window for soft light, and frame from mid-chest up unless the brief says otherwise.
2. Get the sound right
Record in a quiet room with soft furnishings. A basic clip-on mic makes a bigger difference than a better camera.
3. Work with a reader
Ask your reader to stand just beside the camera and read flatly, so your eyeline stays close to the lens and attention stays on you.

4. Label and send it correctly
Name the file with your name, role and project, and follow the submission format in the casting call exactly.
